Life Safety and Investigations division is tasked with providing city wide fire prevention and education to the citizens of La Vergne. This division is also responsible for fire codes enforcement and fire origin and cause investigations. This division is supervised by the city fire marshal.
The City of La Vergne has the "2012 International Fire Code" and "National Fire Protection Association Life Safety Code 101" adopted. The department currently has four fire inspectors on staff who provide fire and life safety inspections throughout the city for new and existing structures. LFRD also conducts annual pre-planned and courtesy inspection for all commercial buildings within the city.
Any fire plans needing approval shall be submitted to the Fire Administration office. This does not include additional copies that the Building and Codes Department may require.
Businesses needing life safety inspections should contact the Fire Administration office to schedule a date and time.
LFRD has five trained investigators on staff. These investigators look into the origin and cause of each fire battalions respond to in the city. In the event the cause is determined to be criminal in nature these investigators determine appropriate charges for suspects and see the investigation through the entire judicial process.
LFRD is also partnered with several different agencies to assist in fire related investigations including the Rutherford County Arson Task Force, the Tennessee State Fire Marshal's Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosions Agency (ATF).
