Hiring Process

Applicants must successfully pass a written aptitude test before proceeding to a firefighter physical agility test. Those who pass the agility test will be invited to the interview phase.

Credentialed Firefighter

Starting Pay: $43,382

Minimum Requirements

  • Age 18 years or older
  • Required: No felony convictions or misdemeanors involving moral turpitude 
  • Required: High School Diploma or GED required
  • Required: valid driver’s license
  • Required: Tennessee Firefighter I and II, IFSAC or Pro Board
  • Required: Tennessee Department of Public Health Emergency Medical Responder Advanced Medical Technician (AEMT)


Recruit Firefighter

Starting Pay: $39,701

Minimum Requirements

  • Age 18 or older
  • Required: No felony convictions or misdemeanors involving moral turpitude
  • Required: High School Diploma or GED
  • Required: Valid Driver’s License
  • Preferred: Firefighter I and II, IFSAC or Pro Board
  • Preferred: Tennessee Department of Public Health Emergency Medical Responder Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT)

Post Employment Requirements

  • Must obtain State of Tennessee Firefighter I within eighteen (18) months
  • Must obtain State of Tennessee Firefighter II within thirty (30) months
  • Must obtain State of Tennessee Division of Emergency Medical Treatment (EMT) within eighteen (18) months
  • Must obtain State of Tennessee Division of Advance Emergency Medical Service within thirty (30) months
