Baseball season is right around the corner in La Vergne after the Board of Mayor and Alderman voted to approve this year’s league facility user agreement with Tennessee Strikers Softball Association at the February board meeting.
Alderman Steve Noe, who also serves as the Chairman of the Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee, said “I am so excited to see the City accept the Tennessee Strikers proposal to run our ball league this year. In addition to this great organization, we have an amazing facility that, in my opinion, is one of the best in the mid-state and together we should be able to provide an amazing season for the kids in our community.”
Players between 3 and 16 years old have the opportunity to practice in baseball and softball in a variety of levels including recreation and travel. Available programs include baseball and softball t-ball, 6U, 8U, 10U, 12U, as well as softball 14U and 16U. Registration is $100 for T-Ball through 8U and $120 for 9U and up. Registration includes a shirt, hat, pants and belt for each player. Registration is open to anyone wanting to participate in the ball league.
Practice will begin March 2nd and the regular season ends June 30th and is followed by playoff games. Teams will practice twice every week, one weekday and one weekend, until games begin, at which time practices will drop to one weekday and one game on the weekend.
“We’re trying to build our baseball league back up to what it was, hundreds of kids spread across our eight magnificently manicured fields, and I am confident Tennessee Strikers can help us accomplish that,” says Event and Athletic Coordinator Felicia Mayes.
To register, visit www.TennesseeStrikers.com or attend one of two onsite registration/uniform fitting events, Saturday, February 16th from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. or Friday, February 22nd from 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Park above the concession stands near Pavilion B. Registration closes February 22nd.
“I am extremely excited about the new organization taking over the City’s ball league,” said Parks Director A.C. Davis. “This is a great organization and I can’t wait to see the kids back out on the fields having fun.”
