[ARCHIVED] La Vergne human resources director appointed to IPMA-HR International Board of Directors

The City of La Vergne’s Human Resources Director Cheryl Lewis-Smith, PHR, IPMA-SCP, M.A., has been appointed to the International Executive Council for the International Personnel Management Association for Human Resources Management (IPMA-HR).

IPMA-HR decided to appoint Lewis-Smith to the International Executive Board last year, and the 3-year appointment became official January 2019. Lewis-Smith currently serves as President-Elect on the Tennessee Personnel Management Association (TPMA) Board of Directors and will assume the Presidency role in April 2019. She began serving on the TPMA board in 2014.

Current and Past IPMA-HR/TPMA involvement through the years includes Member of the International Governmental Affairs Task Force Committee, Nominating Committee, International Training Conference Chairman and Planning Committee Member, Scholarship Committee, Conference Workshop Presenter and Facilitator, Professional Mentor Committee, State Conference Program Chair and Planning Committees.

Lewis-Smith is a 27-year seasoned Human Resources Management Professional and was hired by the City in July 2013. Her professional background includes a myriad of areas in both Public and Private Sectors; Municipal & State Government, Higher Education, Healthcare, and Finance. Lewis-Smith has a plethora of Human Resources Management Leadership Experiences, both professionally and through civic engagement organizations on local, state, national and international levels. Lewis-Smith holds a Bachelor of Science Degree from Judson College, Marion, Alabama, with a double major in Psychology and Sociology. She received a Master of Arts Degree in Organizational Communication from Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, KY and holds the designation as a Professional in Human Resources Management (PHR) with SHRM along with a Senior Certified Professional designation (IPMA -SCP) within the International Public Management Association for HR.

Other current and past Professional Human Resources Affiliations include, Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM), Tennessee PRIMA, Tennessee LOGIC Consortium, Board of Directors, Rutherford County, TN Project Search Advisory Council, College and University Personnel Association (CUPA), Kentucky Parent Teacher Association, HR Consultant (KY-PTA), Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., member of the International Human Resources Committee. Lewis-Smith has also worked extensively with the Society for Human Resources Management Association (SHRM). She served in multiple roles including Local Chapter President, State Conference Chairman and State Director for the College and University Chapters in Kentucky.
