[ARCHIVED] LPD Officer Spotlight

The bond between man and dog has been described as unbreakable, and it's even earned our furry friends the title of Man's Best Friend. "I love having him by my side," said Officer Lewis Powell.

Three years ago Officer Powell met his four-legged best friend, K-9 Mike. Mike is a Belgian Malinois, who trained in Louisiana with Powell at USK9 Dog Training Academy. K-9 Mike is a patrol dog known for discovering narcotics, tracking, and apprehending suspects. "He really impressed me when we tracked down a dangerous suspect during a vehicle chase."

As a 9-year veteran with La Vergne Police, a member of the crime suppression team and the SWAT team, Officer Powell has worked with many men and women, but K-9 Mike is his first dog partner. "I love having him around. I am never by myself," said Powell. From the look on K-9 Mike's face in the picture, it is pretty clear he loves having Officer Powell around as well. Thank you both for serving La Vergne!
