They can predict summertime's hot temperatures, but can they handle the heat of an open flame? Tuesday August 23, Middle Tennessee meteorologists will compete in a "grill-off" as part of National Senior Citizens Day at the La Vergne Farmers Market. Fox 17’s Chief Meteorologist Katy Morgan, News Channel 5 Meteorologist Lelan Statom, and Channel 4 Meteorologist Paul Heggen will all be participating.

Each meteorologist/grillmaster will be teamed up with a senior citizen. Once the smoke clears, Mayor Dennis Waldron, La Vergne Fire Chief Rick McCormick, and Parks and Rec. Director A.C. Davis will choose the best kabob. The meat will be provided from J’s Meats and More, and veggies will be provided from the many produce vendors at the La Vergne Farmers Market. The teams competing are welcome to provide their own seasoning or marinade.

The judges aren’t the only ones who get to eat -- the city will have our own grilling station set up for anyone who is hungry! All food proceeds will go to benefit the La Vergne Senior Center. Stop by to witness this savory competition starting at 2pm, at 5063 Murfreesboro Rd in La Vergne. The Farmers Market is located behind the library.
